With One Jump Ahead at the printers and due to be published on Tuesday (21st September), I am currently working on the Autumn Update, which will be emailed to clients at the end of this week - I haven't decided whether it is Thursday (23rd) or Friday (25th) because I want to see the final declarations for Saturday's action at Newmarket.
The Autumn Update will have detailed analysis of the Cambridgeshire and Cesarewitch, plus the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe and some of the major juvenile races such as the Cheveley Park and Middle Park Stakes. There will also be some additional horse to follow during the final weeks of the season. Last year's Update included Alcohol Free (advised @ 8/1) in the Cheveley Park Stakes, Lucander (advised @ 16/1) - 2nd in the Cambridgeshire and In Swoop (advised @ 33/1) - 2nd in Arc.
I spent a couple of enjoyable days at Ayr on Friday and Saturday. The weather wasn't so kind on Friday but it was a beautiful afternoon on Saturday with Kevin Ryan winning the Ayr Gold Cup for a fifth time following Bielsa's two and a quarter lengths victory. The six year old hadn't managed to get his head in front for nearly two years but he had run well from a poor draw in the Stewards' Cup last time. Given an inspired ride by Kevin Stott (partnered him to all five of his career wins), he stuck to the stands side rail having been drawn in stall 25, racing solo before running on strongly to beat the well supported Great Ambassador. No horse over the three day meeting had run against the rail and it was fresh ground. I spoke to Kevin Ryan afterwards and he said the plan had been hatched on Saturday morning and fair play to Stott for sticking to it. Jockeys can invariably be like sheep when it comes to large field handicaps and follow the rest of the pack.
While speaking to the Hambleton trainer, he also mentioned a juvenile who shaped promisingly on her debut recently - I have included her in the Autumn Update.
Thank you very much to those clients who have bought One Jump Ahead and the Updates over the last few days - your continued support is greatly appreciated. Please head to the Publications section of the site to order a copy, if you haven't already done so, plus the Autumn Update.
