The Top 40 Prospects were in fine form at the Cheltenham Festival with a handful of winners over the four days. The trend continued at Uttoxeter on Saturday with The Edgar Wallace (15/8) scoring at the third time of asking over hurdles. Runner-up at Doncaster on his previous start, the Flemensfirth gelding underwent a wind operation shortly afterwards. Making all, David Bass' mount was given a soft lead and, while he was challenged from the third last, he maintained the gallop to win by a couple of lengths. Held in high regard by Kim Bailey, he is very much a chaser in the making and his rider felt the Midlands track was sharp enough for the six year old. A half-brother to Cheltenham Festival winner Black Hercules, he will hopefully be sent over fences in the Autumn but is capable of winning again over timber beforehand. A slower learner, he can only improve. He was providing the Top 40 Prospects with their 49th winner of the season.
I am working at Carlisle on Sunday for Racing TV where conditions will be testing. I will hopefully catch up with a few people and gather some thoughts for the future, which I will pass on in the Aintree Update. Don't forget to order your copy of the Aintree Update - please head to the Publications section. The Update is £6.00.
