Many of you will have read the 'best case scenario' issued by the BHA over the weekend regarding the resumption of racing. It is hoped we could be back in action as early as the second week in May with the strong possibility of racing at Lingfield and Newcastle. However, it all depends on the Government and we can only sit and wait. There is talk of staging the Guineas at the beginning of June with Royal Ascot later the same month (16th - 20th) as planned. Then, in all likelihood, the Derby and Oaks being run in early July. It remains to be seen how much the Classics will impact on the Royal fixture, but beggars can't be choosers and any form of racing would be welcome at the moment.
From a business point of view, I was talking to my printer on Monday afternoon about the possibility of getting Ahead On The Flat published next month, depending on when/or if racing resumes during May. The outcome was positive which is good news. I am afraid for now though, we are just going to have to sit and suffer and keep our fingers crossed.
I will keep readers informed of any further developments. In the meantime, stay safe and get into the garden and enjoy the sunshine. The BBC's decision to show a rerun of Alex Higgins' victory over Ray Reardon in the 1982 World Snooker Championship on Sunday afternoon was appreciated by yours truly. One of my sporting heroes when I was growing up, the saying form is temporary, class is permanent, certainly applied to Alex. It was great viewing.
