Charlie Appleby and William Buick dominated proceedings at Yarmouth on Wednesday with the champion trainer and jockey having four winners. The highlight was provided by the progressive Sapphire Seas in the Listed John Musker Stakes over ten furlongs. The daughter of Frankel had won in handicap company at Haydock last month off a mark of 94 and she made a seamless transition into Pattern company at the East Anglian track pulling away in the closing stages to score by two and a half lengths. A trip to the Breeders Cup in November could be on her agenda.
Top 40 Prospects entry Infinite Cosmos hadn't been seen since finishing third behind the subsequent Epsom Oaks winner Soul Sister in the Group 3 Musidora Stakes at York in May. Reported to have suffered with a nasty virus during the summer, Sir Michael Stoute and his team have done a terrific job to get the Sea The Stars filly back this term and she made a very pleasing return to action in third. Held up by Richard Kingscote, she travelled smoothly and, while unable to match the winner's turn of foot late on, she stayed on nicely and will benefit from stepping up to a mile and a half in time. She remains a promising filly who will make an exciting four year old.
As discussed, I am heading to Ayr on Thursday evening and working for Racing TV on both Friday and Saturday. I will therefore update the Diary on Sunday with more news on the forthcoming edition of One Jump Ahead. In the meantime, if you haven't ordered a copy of OJA and the Updates, or the Autumn Update (emailed to clients on Thursday 28th September), please head to the Publications section of the site.
