Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers section nominated the grey White Moon as a horse to follow this winter and the five year old looks just that, judged on his six lengths win in a maiden hurdle at Wincanton. The Sholokhov gelding won the third of his three points before joining Colin Tizzard during the summer. The two miles five contest was billed as a match between him and Dan McGrue, a bumper and three times point winner. Paul Nicholls' charge attempted to make all and he appeared to be controlling things on the run to the home straight. However, it soon became apparent Harry Cobden was biding his time aboard White Moon. Leading soon after the second last, he readily pulled clear and found plenty after the final flight. It was a smart performance by a horse who will be even more effective on a big galloping track. He is one to look forward to, especially when he jumps fences in twelve months time.
I intended sending out an Email Service selection for tomorrow but the horses I am interested in are too short in the early exchanges. I will therefore wait until next week - there promises to be some decent racing at the likes of Aintree, Carlisle, Cheltenham, Exeter, Kelso, Wincanton etc. I am conscious I have only sent out 2 selections thus far in October but, as I have stated in the past, I am not sending out a selection for the sake of it.
