Top 40 entry Gidleigh Park looked useful when winning a bumper at Chepstow in March and confirmed the view with a convincing success on his hurdles debut at Exeter on Monday. A gelded son of Walk In The Park, he was kept wide by Johnny Burke and never far off the pace. Taking over from the front running Range at the second last, Harry Fry's runner pulled away to record a seven and a half lengths victory in the two miles novices' hurdle. One would expect the five year old to be kept low key for the time being and perhaps return to the same track on New Year's Day for a similar event. Likely to be stepped up in grade later in the campaign, he is a big powerful looking gelding who will come into his own over further and fences in time. He is a cracking long-term prospect and one to look forward to.
Harry Fry had a double at the West Country venue and was a shade unfortunate not to make it three in the concluding bumper. Anno Power received a favouable mention on page 55 of One Jump Ahead and she was well supported beforehand. The daughter of Affinisea travelled powerfully and went through the race like the best horse. However, her early enthusiasm cost her in the latter stages as she was outstayed by Dunskay with the pair clear of the rest. The four year old learnt her trade with Colin Bowe in Ireland before joining Fry last year. It won't be long before she goes one better.
