The 21st of June is officially the longest day of the year and, along with the 20th June, it has felt like it with winners at Royal Ascot being hard to find. In fact, I think I will concentrate on the 'away' meetings during Royal Ascot week next year with the Names To Note section in the Update excelling (4 winners from 5 runners). Audarya was in a different league to her opponents in a ten furlongs novice stakes at Redcar on Friday. James Fanshawe's filly, who was in receipt of twelve pounds from two previous winners, took charge with two and a half furlongs to run before staying on strongly to win by nearly four lengths. Then, in the evening, Wannie Mae won on her handicap debut in a twelve furlongs event at Goodwood. Given an excellent ride by Nicola Currie, William Haggas' filly, who was racing off 67, led close home to beat Sneeky Peak by a neck. The daughter of Australia will be even more effective over a mile and six with ease in the ground seemingly important to her.

As far as the Royal meeting is concerned, it was another disappointing day with Epsom Derby third Japan providing the one and only highlight in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes. The son of Galileo, who was advised at 9/4 in the Update, was only beaten half a length at Epsom earlier this month. Aidan O'Brien's runner proved in a different league to his opponents winning by four and a half lengths. It would be no surprise to see him return in a months time for the King George taking on the older horses.

Jubiloso lost her unbeaten record in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes but Sir Michael Stoute's filly emerged with tremendous credit. A dual winner in the spring, this represented a huge step up in class but the daughter of Shamardal certainly didn't look out of place in such company. James McDonald's mount travelled strongly but couldn't match Watch Me or dual Guineas winner Hermosa close home. Only beaten two and a half lengths, she looks capable of winning at the highest level this season.
