I spoke to the printers on Monday morning and they confirmed One Jump Ahead is due to be published on Wednesday (23rd September). Depending on what time they arrive from the printers, orders will be sent out as soon as possible. Thank you very much to those clients who have already ordered - I honestly can't remember a response as good as this year. Your support is greatly appreciated. Please head to the Publications section of the site to order a copy (plus the 5 Updates), if you haven't already done so.
It is a busy week because the Autumn Update is due to be published later this week. The plan, at the moment, is to send out on Thursday pm once the final declarations for Saturday's card at Newmarket have been issued. The meeting includes the Group 1 Middle Park and Cheveley Park Stakes, plus the Cambridgeshire. There is still time to order a copy. The Autumn Update is £6.00.
Unfortunately, my long range fancy for the Ayr Gold Cup, namely Wise Counsel, could only finish eighth on Saturday. Clive Cox's four year old travelled strongly and looked set to play a major part approaching the final furlong. However, he lacked a change of gear and could only keep on at the one pace. Beaten less three lengths, he wasn't disgraced but I must admit I was disappointed with his finishing effort. Ironically, the race went the way of the well supported Nahaarr who I had tipped in the Silver Wokingham at Royal Ascot. I think it is fair to say William Haggas' fast improving four year old would have won that day had he not hit the front too soon. You can't win them all.
Wise Counsel's performance aside, I had a very enjoyable couple of days at Ayr. It was strange without crowds but the racing on Friday and Saturday was very good and it gave me a chance to catch up with a few trainers to ask about some horses for the remainder of the season. I will pass on my findings in the Autumn Update. The weather was good, too, which always makes a difference. Well done to Iain Ferguson and all the team at Ayr - they deserved a bit of luck after a few fraught years.
