The Lord Maid won on her first start for Value Racing Club and Tom Lacey in the mares' novice hurdle at Southwell on Tuesday. The Mount Nelson mare was bought privately after winning over hurdles at Clonmel in February for Josh Halley and she looks another decent recruit for the syndicate. The six year old coped with the livelier ground at the Midlands track before stretching clear after the second last to win by four and a half lengths. Despite the fact both her wins have been gained over two and a half miles, The Lord Maid gives the impression she won't have any trouble staying further.
Bellum Justum (9/1) won the Listed Blue Riband Trial at Epsom under Oisin Murphy. The Sea The Stars colt, who won over a mile at Newmarket last backend, appreciated the step up to ten furlongs and booked his place for a return to the Surrey track on the 1st June with a three parts of a length victory. Trainer Andrew Balding spoke favourably about the King Power Racing owned colt in Ahead On The Flat and he looks open to further improvement over an extra two furlongs.
