"The Listed Eternal Stakes at Carlisle (23rd June) looks an ideal target mid summer," said Ralph Beckett on page 64 of Ahead On The Flat when referring to Meu Amor (3/1). The daughter of Siyouni stuck to the script winning the seven furlongs event by two and three quarters of a length on Wednesday.
Indeed, the Talking Trainers section of AOTF had a productive day with Johan (5/1) and Pleasant Man (7/1) scoring at Salisbury. The latter has always been held in high regard by Roger Charlton - he was Roger's horse to follow - contesting the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last Autumn. Gelded since finishing fifth of six in the Group 3 Chester Vase last time, the son of Galileo had been dropped to a mark of 92 (rated 101 at the start of the year) and took full advantage in the Bibury Cup at the Wiltshire track. Leading inside the final furlong, he stayed on well to win by a neck. Lord Protector, who had beaten Pleasant Man at Windsor in April, was back in third.
Readers of AOTF will be aware that William Haggas nominated Baaeed as his horse to follow and the son of Sea The Stars has looked a colt of considerable potential. Unbeaten in both his starts, including a seven and a half lengths victory at Newmarket last Saturday, he has been allocated an opening mark of 104. It will be interesting to see where he heads next. Despite the fact both wins have been gained over a mile, he is a full-brother to Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes third Hukum and William feels he will be even better over further. He is a very exciting prospect.
