Thank you to all those clients who have already ordered One Jump Ahead - the response has been fantastic and much appreciated. I am clearly not the only person who can't wait for the season to get underway 'properly.' On the same theme, I spoke to the trainer of the horse featured on page 35 of OJA earlier this week and he told me the gelding will make his eagerly anticipated reappearance at Kelso on Sunday 8th October. He worked nicely at Southwell the other day.
Unfortunately, the three day Ayr Gold Cup Festival was abandoned without a race being run due to waterlogging a problem with the track in the home straight. The Gold Cup itself, though, is expected to now take place at Haydock Park next Saturday with a maximum field of seventeen.
Star Rock (5/2), who is featured in the Maidens In Waiting section of Ahead On The Flat, made the most of a lenient looking rating on her handicap debut at Newmarket this afternoon. Hughie Morrison's filly had won a twelve furlongs maiden on the Rowley Mile in May from subsequent Pattern winner God Given and was granted a mark of 80 as a result. Returning from a four months absence, the Fastnet Rock filly was well backed beforehand and she stayed on strongly under Josephine Gordon to win the fillies' handicap by a length and a half. I think she will stay ahead of the assessor for a while and is one to follow in the remaining weeks of the season.
The feature on Alan King's Flat horses in the York Ebor Update has proved profitable to follow with another 3 winners during the last ten days, namely Just In Time (13/8), Kozier (Evens) and Who Dares Wins (7/1). The same Update also unearthed first time out two year old winner Imperial Past (5/2) who scored on his debut at Yarmouth on Wednesday. A well bred son of Dubawi, he won with something in hand and should make a cracking three year old next season.
I am currently working on the Autumn Update, which will be emailed to clients next Thursday (28th September). There will be more unraced two year olds featured, plus a full analysis of the Cambridgeshire, Cesarewitch, Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, Cheveley and Middle Park Stakes. The cost is £6 and, if you wish to order a copy, please go to the Publications section of the site.
