Know The Score (9/2) provided the Handicap Snips section of One Jump Ahead with a nice priced winner in the novices' handicap chase at Worcester on Wednesday. The Flemensfirth gelding, who cost £380,000 having won an Irish point for Donnchadh Doyle, was largely disappointing over hurdles last season. However, David Pipe's charge was always likely to come into his own over fences and it proved the case at the Midlands track. Always prominent, David Noonan's mount jumped cleanly throughout and the showed a willing attitude when challenged on the run-in by Supremely Lucky. A half lengths scorer, he was winning off a mark of 124 and it the sort to stay ahead of the handicapper. The softer the ground the better and he further he goes the better. Long-term, don't be surprised to see Know The Score lining up in one of the Nationals.
Philip Hobbs' interview (pages 74 - 82) is producing plenty of winners and the Minehead trainer sent out two more at Worcester. Larkbarrow Lad (9/2) won the novices' handicap hurdle series final over the fixed brush hurdles off a mark of 128, while Irish import Big Splash (10/1) scored on his Rules debut in the concluding two miles seven maiden hurdle. The Vinnie Roe gelding looks well bought at £33,000.
Another Hobbs inmate to keep tabs on is Off The Planet who shaped well on his debut in the bumper at Worcester. The market beforehand was dominated by former Irish pointers but the race went the way of the Ian Williams trained Dragon Bones. However, Off The Planet stayed on well in fifth and was beaten around four lengths under Richard Johnson. Short of room on the inside, he ran on once seeing daylight and will be much more streetwise next time. A four year old by Presenting, he was bought for €60,000 at the Derby Sales in Ireland last year. Owned by Paul and Clare Rooney, he is a winner waiting to happen.
Overall, it was another good day for One Jump Ahead with four winners - I K Brunel (13/8) got the better of Eden Du Houx in the two miles three maiden hurdle at Fontwell. Highly regarded by Olly Murphy, he travelled strongly and jumped well before pulling six lengths clear of David Pipe's Listed bumper winner. A trip to Cheltenham's November meeting could be on the five year old's agenda.
Switching codes, there were two unraced juveniles highlighted in the Autumn Update. Higher Kingdom (8/11) was a four lengths winner on his racecourse bow at Kempton earlier this month. King Leonidas (13/8) made the perfect start to his career with a two lengths victory on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket on Wednesday. Trained by John Gosden, the son of Kingman cost 750,000gns and he looked a smart sort as he disposed of the more experienced Evening Sun.
