Roger Varian's return to form continued on Tuesday with an across the card double. The highly regarded Eldar Eldarov was an impressive winner at Nottingham last Autumn and he made a belated return to action under a penalty at Newcastle. Well supported before the off, the beautifully bred son of Dubawi stayed on strongly to beat three decent rivals who were all race fit by upwards of two and a quarter lengths. Entered in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, time will tell whether that comes too soon but he is a smart prospect for the summer and beyond. David Egan indicated afterwards that his mount appreciates some ease in the ground which is likely to dictate his plans. He is another exciting inclusion in the Top 40 Prospects of AOTF.
I am heading to Hamilton on Wednesday before working at Carlisle and Haydock on Friday and Saturday respectively. I will therefore be back to update the Diary in between trips. If you haven't ordered the Ahead On The Flat Updates, starting with Royal Ascot, please head to the Publications section of the site.
