On Thursday, I carried out two more interviews for One Jump Ahead. Firstly, I spoke to Harry Fry who has already sent out a couple of winners from his new base in Dorset. Paul Nicholls' former assistant is understandably excited about the season ahead and is particularly looking forward to a strong team of novice chasers this winter. Secondly, I spent over an hour chatting to Philip Hobbs and, as usual, the Minehead trainer has a formidable squad of horses, including stable star and multiple Grade 1 winner Defi Du Seuil who arrived back from his summer break in Ireland during the last few days. Philip has recruited fresh talent from France and Ireland and has awful lot to look forward to with some potentially well handicapped young horses.
I will be conducting more interviews next week - please keep checking the Diary for updates - in the meantime, I am covering the card at Beverley for Racing TV this afternoon.
Finally, congratulations to ValueRacingClub.co.uk following their third winner in less than a week. Shortly after the victories of Black Anthem and Leoncavallo, the Tom Lacey trained Yes No Maybe So won on his first start for the syndicate at Uttoxeter on Friday. Acquired privately out of Donald McCain's yard, the lightly raced six year old stayed on strongly to win the two and a half miles handicap hurdle at the Midlands track under a fine ride by Johnny Burke. Well done to racing manager James Couldwell because he looks another shrewd acquistion for the club. Have a great weekend.
