There are 61 horses covered in Roger Varian's interview in Talking Trainers in Ahead On The Flat. At the time of writing, the interview has already produced 26 winners, which is a tremendous amount considering we are still in May. The Newmarket handler, who transferred to Carlburg Stables on the Bury Road in January, sent out an across the card double yesterday courtesy of two highly promising four year olds.
Nezwaah recorded her second Listed win of her career when taking the Rothesay Stakes at Ayr. Always moving well for Andrea Atzeni, she was pulled off the rail before quickening smartly to win readily by nearly four lengths. The Dubawi filly was in a different league to her opponents. Yet to race beyond ten furlongs, it will be interesting to see if she is tried over further which brings the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock into consideration. Fast ground suits and she is certainly not devoid of speed. She looked very good at the Scottish track and bigger and better prizes await.
Later the same day, Wagidor made it three out of three when winning the eleven furlongs handicap at Kempton. Varian's unbeaten charge defied a mark of 96 to comfortably see off Regicide by a length and a half. There may be one more handicap in the son of Champs Elysees before his sights are raised. On the evidence of his three starts to date, he looks a Pattern horse in the making and is another very much for the notebook. The stable is blessed with some terrific talent, especially in the older horse department.
