One of the most popular sections in One Jump Ahead is Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers which has unearthed so many promising youngsters over the years. Admittedly, the odds were prohibitive but Declan was at it again this afternoon at Roscommon with the Gordon Elliott trained Flawless Escape running away with the concluding bumper. Runner-up in his only point last season, the gelded son of Sagamix had little difficulty accounting for his five rivals by upwards of five and a half lengths under Nina Carberry. Still considered raw, the four year old will be even more at home on galloping tracks according to Declan (see page 115). It will be interesting to see if Flawless Escape has another run in a bumper or goes jumping now. Either way, he looks a nice prospect and there will be plenty more of where that came from in Declan's article between now and the spring.
As stated, the Autumn Update will be emailed to clients on Thursday evening in time for the weekend's action at Newmarket and Chantilly amongst others. Please head to the Publications section of the site if you wish to purchase a copy.
