Aidan O'Brien has sent out 4 juvenile winners from only a handful of runners in 2021 with the impeccably bred Contarelli Chapel making an impressive start to her career at Naas on Monday. By first season sire Caravaggio, she is a half-sister to last season's French Oaks and Nassau Stakes winner Fancy Blue. Partnered by Ryan Moore, the filly knew her job and was soon in the firing line. Shaken up with a couple of furlongs to run, she readily stretched clear to win by five and a half lengths. It remains to be seen where she heads next but the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot (18th June) is expected to be on her agenda this summer. She looks a high-class prospect and as good a juvenile we have seen on either side of the Irish Sea thus far.
Tim Easterby's interview in Ahead On The Flat has been productive in recent days with Barney's Bay (15/8), Staxton (5/1) and Highwaygrey (11/1) all winning. The Great Habton handler was also on the mark at Thirsk with Manigordo (25/1) winning the six furlongs handicap. Bought out of Richard Hannon's yard for 25,000gns last Autumn, the four year old was having only his second run for his new yard and appreciated the drop back in trip at the North Yorkshire track. Once rated 98, he was scoring here off 81 showing plenty of speed in the process. A two and a quarter lengths winner, he looks another good addition to the yard.
