Karl Burke's juveniles continue to thrive with Fallen Angel (9/4) making a winning start to her career at Haydock on Friday. A filly by first season sire Too Darn Hot out of a May Hill Stakes winner, she won the first seven furlongs event in the UK with a fine display. Ridden by Clifford Lee, she stayed on strongly to win going away by a length and three quarters. Highlighed as a two year old to follow by the owner Clipper Logistics's racing manager Joe Foley on page 53 of Ahead On The Flat, she was far from fully wound up for this according to Joe and therefore ought to improve as the year goes on.
Gregory is included in the Unraced Three Year Olds to Follow section in AOTF and the John and Thady Gosden trained runner made it two out of two when winning the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood. Owned by Normandie Stud, the Golden Horn colt had scored impressively on his debut at Haydock last month and faced a step up in class here. Despite the fact he looked ill at ease on the track for large parts, he was well on top at the finish winning going away by three lengths. From a terrific staying family and related to the likes of Lionel and Samuel, it would be no surprise to see him given an entry in the Group 2 Queens Vase Stakes at Royal Ascot - the further he goes, the better he looks.
It is a busy few days ahead with a trip to York on Saturday before a visit to my local track Cartmel on Monday. I will therefore update the Diary in the next few days. Please head to the Publications section of the site to order a copy of the Royal Ascot Update, if you haven't already done so.
