Following a personal best campaign of 71 winners, which included Grand National glory for a second time and Cheltenham Festival success, it is not surprising Lucinda Russell is counting down the days before the 'proper' National Hunt season swings into full stride in the Autumn. The Kinross based handler is responsible for the likes of Corach Rambler and Grade 1 winners Ahoy Senor and Apple's Away, plus a batch of promising young hurdlers/chasers. An already strong team has been further bolstered during the 'off season' with hefty recruitment from the Irish pointing field. With the assistance of partner Peter Scudamore and his son Michael, who has joined forces during the summer, it is a stable set to play a leading role in a number of significant races this term. Sixth in the trainers' championship in 2022/2023, they have realistic claims of finishing even higher this winter. I am therefore delighted to include an interview with Lucinda in One Jump Ahead having run through her formidable string on Tuesday afternoon.
The plan is to conduct more interviews later this week before working at York on Friday evening. I will be back to update the Diary on my return.
