Despite the weather doing its best to dampen the occasion, I enjoyed an excellent evening at Hamilton Park on Friday. Local trainer Jim Goldie dominated proceedings with three winners and two seconds from his eleven runners. The Lanark Silver Bell was the feature event and the twelve furlongs contest received a hefty boost in prize-money with £100,000 added. The improving filly Wickywickywheels registered her fifth win of 2022 as she quickened up well before holding off the late challenge of stablemate Sir Chauvelin by a neck. The four year old joined Goldie with an official rating of 64 and she was scoring her off 86. Her connections are now eyeing some black type. I spoke to her trainer afterwards and suggested he was unlucky not to win the Sky Bet Ebor at York last weekend with veteran Euchen Glen, he replied 'I agree.'
The Goldie trained Aighear (15/2) was suggested as a name to note in the Royal Ascot Update and the lightly raced filly finally justified her inclusion when taking the twelve furlongs handicap later on the card. Partnered by Amie Waugh, the four year old has been tried over various trips and confirmed that promise she had shown at the same track in June.
Indeed it proved a profitable day for subscribers with Tuxedo Junction (10/11) winning the ten furlongs novice stakes at Ffos Las. James Fanshawe's colt was returning from a 70 days break and he ran out a cosy neck winner. Don't expect him to be over raced this Autumn because he is likely to come into his own next term. The well bred son of Iffraaj will make a smashing four year old.
Thank you very much to those clients who have purchased One Jump Ahead and the Updates during the last few days, it is greatly appreciated. Just a reminder to say OJA will be published mid September. I will let clients know a more definite date once I have taken the copy to the printer next month. If you haven't ordered a copy, please head to the Publications section of the site - there are full details on there.
