William Haggas enjoyed an excellent few days at York with three winners - all Pattern successes - including the Group 2 Lowther and Gimcrack Stakes courtesy of Relief Rally and Lake Forest. Whilst working on Friday, I spoke to William and got an update of two of his high profile older horses who haven't been seen in 2023. Both Maljoom and Sense of Duty suffered setbacks earlier in the year but are back in work and, all being well, will hopefully be running shortly. Maljoom, a German 2000 Guineas winner and unlucky not to be unbeaten, could return in either the Group 3 Superior Mile at Haydock (9th September) or the Listed Fortune Stakes at Sandown (20th September). Sense of Duty hasn't been seen since winning the Group 3 Chipchase at Newcastle in June last year. The Listed Garrowby Stakes at York (10th September) is a possible starting point for her. Fingers crossed they can make up for lost time because they are top drawers performers.
