One of last season's Top 40 Prospects Good Boy Bobby made a winning return to action at Bangor on Tuesday. The seven year old was a comfortable winner of the two miles one Intermediate chase at the Welsh track having made all the running. Rated 146 over fences and sporting the familiar green silks of Simon Munir and Isaac Souede for the first time, he jumped well and wasn't hard pressed to keep the runner-up Antunes at bay to score by two and a quarter lengths. A tilt at the Paddy Power Chase at Cheltenham (14th November) is believed to be his next likely target.
Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers article unearthed a smart looking prospect at Chepstow during the same afternoon. Star Gate (5/1) was purchased for £140,000 in February having won his only start for Colin Bowe. Evan Williams' new recruit travelled powerfully throughout and only had to be nudged out to beat the well supported Everglow to win by six and a half lengths in the second division of the two and a half miles maiden hurdle. Only four, the Imperial Monarch gelding looked above average and it will be interesting to track his progress this winter.
I was looking forward to seeing Sizable Sam make his hurdles debut in the first division of the maiden hurdle but he was withdrawn beforehand. Jeremy Scott's Warwick bumper winner reportedly endured a difficult journey to the track and his trainer decided to pull him out and save him for another day. Hopefully, it won't be long before we see the Black Sam Bellamy gelding in action.
