Andy Dufresne was one of expert Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers in One Jump Ahead and the gelded son of Doyen looked a horse of considerable potential when making a winning start to his Rules career at Down Royal on Tuesday. Purchased for £330,000 in March last year having won his only point-to-point, he was sporting the famous silks of J.P.McManus in the concluding bumper. Keen during the early stages, Jamie Codd's mount made the majority of the running before pulling clear to win by ten lengths. Whether he is fast tracked to the Cheltenham Festival for the championship bumper time will tell, but he rates a fine prospect for novice hurdles next Autumn.
The plan is to email the February Update to clients on Wednesday afternoon (30th January). The Update has a look at some of the handicaps for the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival with some suggestions, plus horses to follow during February. There is a full preview of the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury (9th February) and Declan Phelan has pinpointed the pick of the Autumn point-to-pointers in Ireland. There is still time to order a copy (£6.00) - please head to the Publications section of the site.
