Sumkindofking followed up his impressive Rules debut win in a Chepstow bumper by scoring over hurdles at Southwell. Tom George's former Irish pointer jumped fluently and wasn't forced to work too hard to win the two mile maiden hurdle at the Nottinghamshire venue by four lengths. Adrian Heskin's mount was kept wide for the majority of the contest before taking charge after the second last. I suspect the King's Theatre gelding will appreciate a step up to two and a half miles in time and it will be interesting to see where he heads next. He is a smart horse and more wins look assured.
ValueRacingClub.co.uk were amongst the winners again with Greyed A atoning for a narrow defeat at Sedgefield last week by collecting the two mile three handicap hurdle at Lingfield. Partnered by the in-form Daryl Jacob, the Daylami gelding was pushed out to win by nearly four lengths. Another bargain buy for the thriving syndicate, Dr Richard Newland has once again done a terrific job with the lightly raced five year old.
I am working at Catterick tomorrow, where Alan King sends a small but select team (the head of Barbury Castle is one from one at the track folllowing Pemba's win last winter). It will be great to see Barry Geraghty in action at the North Yorkshire venue. I will therefore update the Diary later in the week.
Don't forget, if you would like to subscribe to the Email Service for December, please click on the icon above. Both October and November proved profitable, plus we have a live ante-post selection for next spring's Cheltenham Festival. Talking of the Festival, keep an eye out for the penultimate horse at the bottom of page 148 of One Jump Ahead - he is due to run on Thursday and is, by all accounts, very good indeed and fully expected to win on his jumping bow.
