Ruth Jefferson bought two ex-Irish pointers at the Doncaster Spring Sales in May on behalf of The Mount Fawcus Partnership. Mega Yeats (£60,000) has already won a bumper at Carlisle and finished runner-up in a Listed mares' event at Cheltenham, while Buster Valentine (£100,000) made a successful start to his Rules career in the two miles maiden hurdle at Ayr on Thursday. Featured in Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers section in OJA, the gelded son of Ask jumped beautifully before staying on well to win by nearly four lengths. He looks capable of winning more races over hurdles before sent chasing next term.
Buster Valentine is one of a number of promising youngsters unearthed in Declan's Irish Pointers section (page 131 - 147). Some of his other winners include Beakstown (5/4), Deise Aba (13/2), Honeysuckle (9/10), Mega Yeats (7/1), Northern Bound (2/1), Seven De Baune (8/15), Truckin Away (14/1) and Umbrigado (9/2).
Overall, it was another decent day for the Talking Trainers section with Cuddles McGraw (9/4), Definitelyandoscar (11/8), Southfield Stone (6/4) and Worthy Farm (11/4) winning on Thursday.
