News broke on Monday that Cheltenham Gold Cup winning trainer Peter Beaumont passed away on Sunday evening at the age of 85. The Brandsby based handler won the Gold Cup with Jodami in 1993 and was associated with so many fine staying chasers. Hussard Collonges also provided him with Cheltenham Festival success when winning the Sun Alliance Chase under Russ Garritty. Young Kenny was a personal favourite of mine and he was a tremendous staying chaser who won the Midlands and Scottish National. I was lucky enough to interview Peter at his stables at Foulrice Farm for the Racing Post Weekender many years ago and both he and his late wife Margaret couldn't have been kinder. He was a gentleman. Sadly, they don't make them like him nowadays.
