Robert Havlin had a productive trip to Redcar on Tuesday with two winners from as many rides, both trained by his bosses John and Thady Gosden. The double included a comfortable success for Top 40 entry Burglar (5/2) in the ten furlongs three year old novice stakes. Officially rated 85 and returning from a lay off of 59 days, the son of Cracksman has an excellent pedigree being a half-brother to the stable's Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes winner Frankly Darling. Racing on turf for the first time, he looked much more professional on this occasion and ran out a smooth two lengths victor setting up a possible tilt at something like the Golden Gates Handicap Stakes or the King George V Handicap Stakes at Royal Ascot. He looks a progressive type who should stay further. Indeed, his family members all stayed at least a mile and a half.
Talking of the Top 40, the horse featured on page 28 hasn't raced this term but has been given an entry in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood (2nd August). Hopefully, he will be in action shortly having evidently had a hold up earlier this year.
Quantum Impact, who won at York on Saturday, has been raised five pounds since to a mark of 91 which brings him very much into the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot picture. Last year's winner Thesis won the one mile cavalry charge off a rating of 90 and Ralph Beckett won the contest four years ago with Biometric.
