I have been working on One Jump Ahead on Saturday and therefore haven't caught up with all the action at Beverley, Chester and Sandown etc. However, I did watch the Atalanta Stakes and Solario Stakes at Sandown and I was disappointed with Jubiliso (not sure she stayed the trip) and Al Suhail in their respective races.
On a happier note, the York Ebor Update may have unearthed two potential stars on Friday. The pair, who were featured in the Unraced Two Year Olds section, are trained by John Gosden and both made lasting impressions. The champion trainer has introduced the Enable and Without Parole at Newcastle in recent years and Cape Palace looked well above average when winning the seven furlongs novice stakes by eight lengths. By first season sire and the stable's Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn, he cost 300,000gns as a foal and holds an entry in the Dewhurst Stakes. Stablemate Palace Pier was arguably even more impressive at Sandown earlier in the day. Bought for 600,000gns, he quickened up smartly along the far rail to win going away by three and three quarters of a length. Frankie Dettori was evidently impressed and it will be interesting to see where the pair head next. Both looked Pattern horses in the making.
I was also taken by the performance of Wise Ruler in the ten furlongs novice stakes at Gosforth Park. Featured in Ahead On The Flat, Simon Crisford's charge had been off the track for over 280 days prior to chasing home the useful First In Line (runner-up in the Melrose Stakes since) at Doncaster this month. Reappearing nearly four weeks later, he stayed on strongly to win by two and three quarters of a length. Rated 80, he will stay a mile and a half and could win a decent middle distance handicap in the remaining months of the season. The gelded son of Dawn Approach looks progressive.
