A couple of weeks ago I was praising the training skills of Tom Lacey after Kateson (16/1) made a winning start to his career in a bumper at Chepstow. The Herefordshire based handler was at it again at the same venue this afternoon when sending out Polydora (25/1) to win the opening two miles three maiden hurdle. As stated on page 71, the half-brother to Roberto Goldback is highly regarded but has suffered with feet problems in the past. The Milan gelding produced some terrific leaps in the homestraight and, having landed running after the last, he stayed on strongly to beat former pointer Canelo by three parts of a length with the pair clear. Provided he stays in one piece, Polydora looks a promising horse for the future, especially when jumping fences in due course. At the risk of repeating myself, the Tom Lacey interview in One Jump Ahead has been a tremendous coup. Tom emailed me on Sunday the name of his 'Trainer's horse to follow' in OJA, which is listed as unnamed (page 73). I will reveal his name in the first OJA Update next month.
As discussed, Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers (pages 112 - 124) have made a fantastic start to the season with 8 winners from only 11 runners. These include potentially exciting prospects On The Blind Side, Palmers Hill, Slate House and White Moon. I haven't got many copies of One Jump Ahead left (less than 200), so I suggest purchasing sooner rather than later, if you haven't already done so.
