Following a frustrating four days at the Cheltenham Festival - 1 winner from 51 runners - Gordon Elliott had an excellent opening afternoon on day one of the Aintree Grand National meeting. Mange Tout, who hadn't been seen since finishing third in the Grade 1 juvenile hurdle at Leopardstown, arrived fresh and produced a plucky performance to defend off compatriot Selma De Vary in the Grade 1 Anniv...

The Top 40 entry didn't jump with any fluency and never looked comfortable under Mark Walsh. The Masked Marvel gelding trailed in a well beaten ninth behind stablemate Apolon De Charnie, who he had beaten on his racecourse debut at Auteuil last Autumn. Back in action in a Grade 2 juvenile h...

Subscribers to the Christmas Special will recall that expert Declan Phelan penned an article highlighting the most promising young Irish pointer to emerge from the Autumn season. They included two horses who won impressively on their Rules debut this week. Even Tho was a four lengths winner of a mares' bumper at Limerick on Tuesday and she looks a bright prospect for next season and beyond. Those ...

Having spent Tuesday morning at the printers completing the index (contains over 600 horses), I am pleased to say Ahead On The Flat is now finished and ready to go to print. I have been told to expect the book from the printers towards the end of next week - the Easter break hasn't done us any favours but we can't do anything that. As soon as they arrive, pre orders will be posted out. Once again...

Having looked forward to the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster for weeks, I am afraid it proved a huge anti-climax with the ante-post selections failing to trouble the judge. There were no excuses on the day with the ground seemingly in both runners favour - they weren't good enough, although I suspect both horses will be running over further in future. Unfortunately, the bad luck continued on Sunday ...

I have continued to work on the new edition of Ahead On The Flat, which is due to be published next month. Just to keep clients informed, the plan is to take the book to the printers early week and, once it has been set out and page numbers added etc, they will get on with printing it. Once I have a definite publishing date, I will let everyone know on here. Once again, many thanks to those subscr...

I was working at Carlisle on Sunday and it was day three of the Go North series and Sandy Thomson capped a good weekend with two more winners at the Cumbrian track. Jamie Snowden trained his 77th winner of a personal best season with Red Acres Max proving too strong in the concluding bumper. It was good to see Nico De Boinville and, while he only had one ride, he was busy signing autographs. I man...
