Top 40 entry and Group 2 winner Estrange was ruled out of the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday following a dirty scope. Ironically, David O'Meara's filly had been granted the widest draw of all in stall 18 earlier on Thursday. Fingers crossed the four year old makes a quick recovery and is able to line up in the Group 1 Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot (18th October) later this month. Either way, it was announced the Cheveley Park Stud owned filly will stay in training next year.
Talking of the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, the selections in the Autumn Update have been granted decent enough draws and I am hopeful of bold showings, including a live outsider who have been well supported in recent days. Rain is forecast for Paris during Friday night / Saturday morning - the ground is currently described as good to firm but that could change.
I was disappointed with the performance of another Top 40 entry Push The Limit in the Listed Noel Murless Stakes at Ascot. Tackling Pattern company for the first time, Ralph Beckett's three year old was heavily supported beforehand and everything appeared to be going to plan approaching the hometurn. Holding every chance inside the final quarter of a mile, Hector Crouch's mount faded inside the final 200 yards leaving the impression he didn't get home. Beaten two lengths in fifth, it will be a surprise if he doesn't revert back to a mile and a half next time. Rated 103, perhaps he will be considered for something like the November Handicap at Doncaster on the final day of the turf campaign.
