Having shown promise on her first couple of starts at Southwell and Yarmouth, Reigning Queen (6/4) got off the mark at the third time of asking at Wetherby on Thursday. The well bred daughter of Night of Thunder, who is ought of a Group 3 winning mare, was given an excellent ride by Oisin Murphy. Having held her position from her low draw in the five and a half furlongs novice stakes, she was switched to the outside before mounting her challenge entering the final quarter of a mile. Pushed out to lead over a furlong out, she stayed on strongly to win comfortably by two and a quarter lengths. Sadly, Andrew Balding's filly appeared to go wrong afterwards, although nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing. Fingers crossed the injury isn't as bad as feared.
