All orders for One Jump Ahead received by 11am on Friday have been posted and those which have arrived since will be posted out on Monday am. Thank you very much to those clients who have ordered - the jumps season feels as though it is warming up with some good action at Warwick on Thursday and Hexham on Friday.
The latter staged a competitive class 3 two miles handicap hurdle which was won in determined fashion by Florida Dreams. His trainer Nicky Richards commented on page 114 of OJA: "I haven't lost faith in him and feel he is on a good mark. Two or two and a half miles is ideal - the one thing he wants is a strongly run race." The Greystoke handler also mentioned the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham as a possible target next month. A Grade 2 bumper winner a couple of seasons ago, the Doyen gelding had a stop start campaign last winter winning at Ayr before running well in the Grade 1 Formby Novices' Hurdle at Aintree and Grade 2 Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr. Racing at the Northumberland track off a mark of 125, the six year old jumped accurately before being forced to dig deep to get the better of Salsada prevailing by a short head. By all accounts, Nicky Richards expects him to improve for the outing and it will be interesting to see whether he heads to Prestbury Park (17th November).
Earlier on the card, Kingston James made a pleasing start to his hurdles career by winning the two miles novice by five and a half lengths. A bargain buy at £30,000 having won a UK point-to-point for Tim Dennis, of Coome Hill fame, the five year old won a bumper at Ayr last spring on his first run for Lucinda Russell. A fine big imposing gelding by Kingston Hill, he jumped well and always appeared to be in control. There are more races to be won with him over hurdles this term before coming into his own over fences in the future.
Please head to the Publications section of the site to order your copy of One Jump Ahead and the Updates, if you haven't already done so. There are some interesting runners from the Autumn Update in action over the weekend, including at Longchamp on Sunday, plus Dan Skelton's horse to follow in OJA is set to be in action.
