Thank you very much to those clients who have emailed following the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday. Daryz (advised @ 7/4) retained his crown with another top-class performance beating Bay City Roller by a length and a quarter and confirming the form with George Scott's runner-up from their meeting in the Group 2 Prix Foy last month. Recording his fourth Group 1 win and his eighth success at the Parisian track, he showed a sharp turn of foot to lead inside the final furlong and scoring with something in hand. Advised in the Autumn Update, along with the third Diamond Necklace (advised @ 20/1), Aidan O'Brien's filly ran a blinder under a tremendous ride by Christophe Soumillon. Drawn widest of all in stall 16, the Ballydoyle filly was able to get in a good position early on and moved up travelling strongly turning for home. Produced on the outside, she couldn't match the finishing kick of Francis Graffard's winner but it was still a very good effort. It is possible the last furlong stretched her stamina having been ridden positively during the early stages.
There appeared to be no obvious excuses for those further back. Maltese Cross had every chance in the homestraight, while Kalpana may have still being feeling the effects of a hard race in the Yorkshire Oaks. The Epsom Oaks winner Thundering On never really threatened (over raced slightly) with another three year old Varandir getting warm beforehand.
Overall, it was a terrific result for clients of the Autumn Update. Following Crest of Fire's luckless defeat in the Cambridgeshire Handicap the previous week, it was a welcome change of fortune. On Monday, the next forfeit stage of the Cesarewitch at Newmarket will be published. Hopefully, Update readers will have a few live contenders for the two miles two event on the Rowley Mile.
Thank you to those clients who have ordered One Jump Ahead & the Updates over the weekend - those orders will be posted out on Monday. If you haven't ordered, please head to the Publications section of the site.
