Aidan O'Brien has dominated proceedings on the Roodeye during the last couple of days with the Ballydoyle outfit sending out four winners from eight runners at Chester. Amelia Earhart, Benvenuto Cellini and Constitution River cemented their positions towards the summit of the ante-post markets for the Epsom Oaks and Derby respectively with authoritative performances. Older stablemate and dual Group 1 winner Jan Brueghel warmed to his task in the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes on Thursday stretching clear inside the final furlong. The former St Leger winner is now likely to bid to retain his crown in the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom next month and renew rivalry with Calandagan.
Away from the North West, Top 40 entry Erdenali made it two out of two in the one mile conditions stakes at Longchamp on Thursday. Already gelded, the son of Caravaggio made a lasting impression when sauntering to a six and a half lengths victory on his debut at Saint-Cloud in late March. The Francis Graffard trained three year old wasn't hard pressed to follow up with his jockey Mickael Barzalona sitting motionless for much of the contest. A two lengths scorer, he won hard held and looks ready for a crack at Pattern company. Effective over a mile, it will be interesting to see if his connections consider something like the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. He is potential smart type.
The Unraced Three Year Olds section in AOTF is producing some exciting sorts and the well bred Song of The Clouds confirmed the promise of her debut at Newbury last month by winning at Redcar on Thursday. A daughter of Night of Thunder, William Haggas' charge was heavily supported beforehand and, having come back on the bridle in the one mile novice stakes, she pulled away to win decisively by three and a quarter lengths. She looks future Pattern race class and provided a healthy boost to Top 40 entry Synchronicity who beat her at the Berkshire track on their debuts.
Twenty four hours earlier, Tornado Tower was a cosy winner of the ten furlongs maiden at Chester. Like Song of The Clouds, the Frankel colt is highlighted in the Unraced Three Years section and he shaped well on his debut at Nottingham last month. Trained by John & Thady Gosden, the Wathnan Racing owned runner is a half-brother to St Leger winner Hurricane Lane and smart stayer and stablemate Sweet William. Bought for 850,000gns, James Doyle's mount stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to win by two lengths. Bred to stay at least a mile and a half, he needs one more run to qualify for the handicaps at the Royal meeting - either the Golden Gates Stakes (10f) or King George V Handicap Stakes (12f). Either way, he is another with a bright future and capable of adding to his tally this summer.
