Haydock Park staged a decent seven race card on Thursday with the highlight being the two fillies' novice stakes over ten and seven furlongs respectively. The Sir Michael Stoute trained Power of Destiny (6/1), who is included in the Unraced Three Year Olds section in AOTF, confirmed the promise she showed on her debut by winning the former event. The well bred daughter of Sea The Stars had finished third over the same trip at Salisbury last month and build on that here with a fine performance. Richard Kingscote's mount had to wait for a gap before being pulled to the outside. Once in the clear, the King Power owned filly quickened up to lead and score by a neck from the fast finishing Cabrera. She is a progressive filly who is likely to tackle another stakes before her sights are raised.
The seven furlongs contest was won by the Ralph Beckett trained Forever Blue, who hadn't been seen since finishing fifth in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood in August last year. A winner at Haydock on her racecourse bow, she showed a good turn of foot to win going away by a length and a quarter. By Blue Point out of a Lingfield Oaks Trial winner, she should have no trouble staying a mile and could be one for the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot in a fortnights time. The same event, another daughter of Blue Point, namely Winning Point was heavily supported and expected to run well on her debut. Sir Michael Stoute's filly has been fragile but shown plenty of ability at home. However, she was given a kamikaze ride from the front and never gave herself a chance of finishing off her race. She is much better than the result shows.
Liberalised (5/2) was one of seven unraced two year old nominated in the interview with Clipper Logistics in AOTF and the daughter of Kodiac made a winning start to her career in the six furlongs fillies' maiden at Hamilton on Thursday. Trained by Karl Burke, she was never far off the pace before taking over with a furlong to run. Pushed out for a length victory, she could have booked her place in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Finally, a big run is expected from the horse featured on page 37 of AOTF on Saturday. Below par on her seasonal reappearance, I spoke to her jockey a few days later and he reported that she failed to handle the loose ground following heavy rain. With a drier surface at the weekend, she can show what she is capable of.
