The Unraced Three Year Olds section in Ahead On The Flat has been in excellent form this week. Following the victories of Song of The Clouds and Tornado Tower at Redcar and Chester respectively, Galiyan (9/4) and Seet (100/30) scored at Chester and Wolverhampton on Friday.
The former had made his debut in a strongly contested ten furlongs novice stakes at Newmarket's Craven meeting last month. Trained by Andrew Balding, the son of Galiway showed his inexperience coming off the bridle before keeping on under tender handling behind the highly regarded Maho Bay. Beaten around seven lengths, he learned plenty on the Rowley Mile and, while he still showed signs of greenness on the Roodeye, Oisin Murphy's mount appreciated the step up to a mile and a half and was comfortably on top at the death. A two and a quarter lengths winner from the 91 rated Joulany, the Kingsclere runner looks a strong stayer and expected him to be competing in Pattern events later in the campaign.
Seet was bought for 425,000gns as a yearling and is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Kalpana. Trained by John & Thady Gosden, the daughter of Too Darn Hot shaped encouragingly on her first racecourse appearance in the Bridget Maiden Fillies' Stakes over seven furlongs at Newbury last month. Staying on in fifth, around five lengths behind Top 40 entry Synchroncity, she is another who relished a step up in distance to win the one mile fillies' maiden at the Midlands track. Partnered by Robert Havlin, she was pulled off the rail turning for home before leading inside the final furlong and a half. A two and a half lengths winner, she is a nice type who should stay further. The form of the Bridget Maiden is working out well with the second and fifth winning subsequently.
I am working for Racing TV at Haydock Park on Saturday and will therefore update the Diary on Sunday. As discussed, we still have a few copies of Ahead On The Flat in stock - the featured horses have made a tremendous start to the season. Please head to the Publications section of the site to order, plus the Updates.
