Apologies for not updating the Diary for a few days - it has been a very busy spell with working at Hamilton and Haydock this week and continuing to work on One Jump Ahead. As discussed, the plan is to take the book to the printers a week tomorrow (16th September). I sent out a flyer on Sunday morning to previous Update subscribers and thank you very much to those clients who ordered OJA and the Updates, it was a terrific response.
The Haydock Sprint Cup provided a superb result for William Haggas and Cieren Fallon with Montassib gaining his first Group 1 success at the age of six. Just for good measure, stablemate Unequal Love finished well to grab third position. Both horses have progressed through the handicap ranks and produced career best efforts at the Merseyside track. Granted his favour slow ground, the winner won't look out of place in the Qipco Champion Sprint at Ascot next month. The stiff six furlongs will be ideal.
At a lesser level, Managing Director (5/2) was nominated as an unraced juvenile to watch out for in the Royal Ascot Update. On Saturday, Bryan Smart's youngster got his head in front at the fifth attempt at Thirsk. The big imposing son of Cotai Glory was suited by dropping back in trip and going from the front. Staying on well, he won the five furlongs nursery by a length and three quarters of a mark of 72. Better late than never.
