It has been well documented that Willie Mullins' bumper horses have been needing their initial outings - one winner in Ireland since October. However, Quiryn looked a smart prospect when scoring on his debut in the four year old bumper at Naas on Friday. Featured in the French Revolution II section in the November Update, the ex-French gelding was in training on the Flat in his native country but had an issue with starting stalls. Bought privately, the son of Sottsass is well bred being a half-brother to the Group 1 Prix du Cadran winner Mille Et Mille and he travelled smoothly under Patrick Mullins. Pushed to the front in the homestraight, he lengthened away to win hard held by nine lengths - according to Race Iq, the Mullins runner covered the last three furlongs in 13.30, 13.25 and 14.37 seconds. Now as short as 10/1 for the Festival bumper, he looks a cracking horse - Cue Card (2010) is the last four year old to win the Grade 1 event, although another Closutton inmate from the same age group, namely Blue Sari, finished a close second behind Envoi Allen in the 2019 version.
