Sir Michael Stoute won the Group 2 Huxley Stakes at Chester on Friday for a record breaking eight time with Passenger registering an emphatic one and a half lengths victory under Richard Kingscote. The homebred four year old was a Group 3 winner at Windsor last summer and was returning from an absence of 258 days. The son of Ulysses was given a patient ride before being pulled out to challenge in the homestraight. Quickening up smartly, Passenger readily swept aside Israr to set up a tilt at the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot (19th June). Unplaced in the Epsom Derby last year when racing too keenly, his sire got better with age and there is every reason to believe his offspring will do likewise.
