All orders for Ahead On The Flat which were received before 11am on Thursday have been posted out and should be with clients by the weekend. Thank you very much to all those who have ordered. As stated a couple of days ago, the response has been tremendous - so much so, that we have less than 150 copies left in stock. Therefore if you would like a copy, please head to the Publications section while stocks last. Next week sees the Flat turf season finally kick into gear following a stop start beginning thanks to the poor weather and similar race planning. Newmarket stages their three day Craven meeting followed up two excellent days racing at Newbury.
The One Jump Ahead Aintree Grand National Update got off to an excellent start on Thursday with Impaire Et Passe (advised @ 9/4) and Sans Bruit (advised @ 14/1) winning on the opening afternoon. The former prevailed by the narrowest of margins in the Aintree Hurdle having looked as though he was going to win comfortably soon after the final flight. Last season's Cheltenham Festival survived a lengthy stewards' enquiry afterwards to get his career back on track. Paul Townend's mount travelled and jumped beautifully but nearly gifted the race to Bob Olinger by hanging right on the run-in.
It was much more straightforward for Sans Bruit (advised @ 14/1) who produced an exhibition round of jumping in the Red Rum Chase. The ex-French gelding had shown signs of coming back to form at Chepstow last time and confirmed it here with a positive front running ride by Bryony Frost. A four lengths winner, he was a joy to watch and well done to those clients who snapped up the 14/1 on offer when the Update was published.
Sir Gino provided the Top 40 Prospects with another Grade 1 win in the Anniversary 4yo Hurdle beating the Triumph Hurdle runner-up Kargese by three and a quarter lengths. Forced to miss the Cheltenham Festival with his stable under a cloud last month, the It's Gino gelding raced keenly early on and didn't jump as well as when winning the Grade 2 Finesse Hurdle at Cheltenham in January but still proved too strong for Willie Mullins' filly. Only four, he is a tremendous long-term prospect.
I am working at Aintree on Friday and Saturday and will therefore update the Diary over the weekend. The Update has made a terrific start and fingers crossed the trend will continue over the next couple of days.
