The second day of Doncaster St Leger meeting got underway with the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes over seven furlongs. Both Forbidden Fire and Rock Montreal were highlighted as juveniles to follow in the York Ebor Update and the pair dominated the finish. It was the impeccably bred Andrew Balding trained filly who came out on top by a head having hit the front over two furlongs out. Oisin Murphy's mount had impressed when winning on her debut at Salisbury and was due to return to the Wiltshire track for the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes earlier this month. Slow ground ruled her out and she stepped up in trip here instead. Having travelled smoothly, she showed signs of inexperience in the closing stages but was always holding Roger Varian's runner-up. A half-sister to dual Group 2 winning stablemate See The Fire, she is by No Nay Never and will presumably be trained with the 1000 Guineas in mind. It will be interesting to see if she is supplemented for either the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes (25th September) or the Group 1 Fillies' Mile (9th October) - both on the Rowley Mile in the coming weeks.
