250th winner for Value Racing Club

I am still working on One Jump Ahead and therefore haven't caught up on all the action from Doncaster and Leopardstown, which will capture the headlines in the racing press on Sunday. 

Congratulations to Value Racing Club who enjoyed their 250th winner courtesy of Nibras Gold in the jump jockeys handicap at Chester. Trained by James Owen, the eight year old finished a close second in the twelve furlongs event last year and went one better in gutsy fashion under Jonathan Burke. It was a milestone winner for the syndicate and, with a bit of luck, they would have won the Portland Handicap at Doncaster earlier in the day, too. Al Shabab Storm was denied by three parts of a length having met trouble in running - his jockey is adamant he would have won with a clear run. Four pounds higher than when winning the Gosforth Park Cup at Newcastle during the summer, he had the Portland winner Air Force One behind him on that occasion. Bought for 45,000gns last Autumn, the five year old has been another terrific buy and he remains capable of winning more big prizes.
