The splendid form of the Top 40 continued on Saturday with another winner and it should have been two. Sticktoyourguns incurred a minor hold up during the spring which meant his return to action was delayed. Back after an absence of 266 days, Owen Burrows' charge produced a fine effort to win on his handicap debut off 87 at Sandown. Racing enthusiastically, the Without Parole colt had to wait for a gap but once in the open, Callum Rodriguez's mount quickened up to lead and score by a length and a quarter and looking a well treated youngster in the process. Staying a mile is unlikely to be a problem and he looks capable of winning a valuable three year old handicap this summer.
Earlier on the card, Raammee was an unlucky second in the one mile handicap. Roger Varian's four year old has been keen on his reappearance at the same track last month. Drawn in stall one, Ray Dawson's mount settled better on this occasion but met traffic problems in the homestraight. Once eventually seeing daylight, the Persian King gelding stormed home but found the winning post coming too soon. Beaten half a length, there is a decent prize to be won with him, too.
Just a reminder that the Royal Ascot Update will be emailed to clients on Sunday evening. There is still time to order a copy, please head to the Publications section of the site.
