Saturday was a good day for followers of Ahead On The Flat with Top 40 Prospects entry Convergent (3/1) gaining some consolation for his agonising defeat in the German Derby last time when winning a Group 3 event at Leopardstown's champions weekend fixture. Trained by Karl Burke, the three year old was returning from a break of 69 days and he ran on strongly in the homestraight to wear down long time leader Sons And Lovers to win going away by a length and a half. Lightly raced, he enjoys cut in the ground and will make a terrific four year old next year.
On page 116 of AOTF, leading agent Anthony Bromley wrote in his Bromley's Best Buys article: "The most exciting yearling I bought for Ed (Dunlop) last year is PATHEIN. By St Mark's Brasilica, he cost 150,000gns from Book 2 and is doing everything nicely so far on the training grounds and we are really optimistic about his prospects this year and beyond." The Ed Dunlop trained colt won on his racecourse bow at Doncaster at 28/1.
