It was back to reality on Saturday with another Cheltenham Festival behind us and the return of the bread and butter offerings. The Top 40 Prospects were amongst the winners with Kingston Pride getting the better of old rival Quebecois in the two miles five novice hurdle at Kempton. The pair had met in the Grade 2 Winter Novices' Hurdle at Sandown in December when Nicky Henderson's runner got bogged down in the testing conditions. Off since (99 days), the Kingston Hill gelding had missed a couple of engagements last month but was back to form here registering a five lengths win. Taking charge at the second last, Nico De Boinville's mount stayed on after the last and will hopefully enjoy a productive spring. On this evidence, he will stay three miles in future.
Japetus, who is featured in the Unraced Bumper Horses section of One Jump Ahead, made a pleasing start to his career when runner-up at Kelso last month. Nicky Richards' youngster confirmed that promise by going one better in the concluding bumper at Newcastle. The Sea The Moon gelded quickened up inside the final quarter of a mile to win going away by two lengths under Danny McMenamin. He is a nice prospect for novice hurdles next term.
