Apologies for not updating the Diary for a few days but I returned from my annual trip to the south on Thursday evening. Aside from the busy motorways, it was an enjoyable visit featuring interviews with Roger Varian, Ralph Beckett and William Haggas on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively. All three were top class hosts and the trio have powerful strings for 2024. Neither Ralph or William will be interviewed by any other publications, which is a real coup for readers of Ahead On The Flat.
Whilst in Newmarket on Tuesday, I had lunch with leading bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley who has once again kindly agreed to writing an article for AOTF. Whilst more renowned for his exploits over jumps, Anthony has tasted plenty of big race success on the Flat, too, with his yearling purchases including Group winners Relief Rally and Trueshan in recent years. Operating under the Highflyer Bloodstock banner, Anthony bought over 80 yearlings last year and there are bound to be plenty of exciting juveniles for the season ahead amongst them.
In other news, Value Racing Club will be hosting their Cheltenham Festival preview via zoom on Saturday 9th March. Leading commentator Stewart Machin is at the helm, while the panel will include my Racing TV colleague Gary O'Brien, Skybet's Michael Shinners, former jockey Tom Scudamore, plus yours truly and a number of guests during the course of the evening. Please head to the Value Racing Club website for more details.
