Lulamba, who was flagged up in the November Update, delivered in no uncertain terms on his British debut at Ascot on Saturday and cemented his position at the head of the ante post market for the Triumph Hurdle in the process. An impressive winner at Auteuil in the Autumn when handled by Arnaud Chaille-Chaille, the four year old was bought privately soon afterwards. Available at 33/1 when mentioned in the Update, the Nirvana Du Berlais gelding conceded ten pounds to the high-class Flat recruit Mondo Man and sprinted away after the last to win by three and a half lengths. Blessed with size and scope, he settled and jumped well and looks a top class recruit for Nicky Henderson and owners Joe and Marie Donnelly. He is all set to head straight to the Festival in March and it will take a very good juvenile to beat him.
The Irish Pointers section in One Jump Ahead produced another winner courtesy of Jacob's Ladder (6/1) at Navan. The son of Mount Nelson appreciated the step up in trip in the two and a half miles maiden hurdle with Gordon Elliott's charge wearing down Forty Coats close home. A half length winner, the six year old ought to stay further in time.
