Top 40 entry Caprelo (11/4) scored on his handicap debut at Kempton on Wednesday evening. From a family his trainer Hughie Morrison knows well, the Ulysses colt appreciated the step up to a mile and three and ran out a ready winner of the 0-70 three year old handicap. Rob Hornby managed to get his mount into a handy position from the outset before striking the front early in the homestraight. Pushed out for a length win, he won here off a mark of 69 and looks the sort to progress through the ranks. Bred to stay further, he is an improving type who should have plenty more to offer.
I am heading to Ayr for the two day Scottish National meeting which gets underway on Friday. It promises to be a terrific couple of days, especially on Saturday with the trainers' title very much up for grabs. Willie Mullins has declared 18 runners on day two - Ireland's champion trainer is 0 from 5 at the track and will be having his first runners since 2016. I will update the Diary on my return.
Don't forget, Ahead On The Flat paper copy has sold out but the PDF version is still available to purchase. Please head to the Publications section of the site.
