Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers section in One Jump Ahead maintained his good run with another winner on Wednesday. Legendary Luke (9/2) was purchased for £100,000 in April having won his sole start 'between the flags' for Sean Doyle last spring. Runner-up in a bumper at Worcester in October on his first run for Jamie Snowden, the five year old appreciated the step up to two and a half miles over hurdles at Ffos Las. Leading at halfway, he held off the challenge of another ex-pointer Gee Force Flyer after the last to score by a length and a half with sixteen lengths back to the third. A stout stayer, his future lies over fences next term but the Soldier of Fortune gelding is capable of adding to his tally before then.
Sad news which broke in recent days that the promising Mister Meggit is no longer with us. Featured in the Top 40 Prospects last season, the seven year old was a hugely talented individual but was plagued with physical issues. He suffered a fractured skull as a bumper horse, missed the majority of his novice hurdle career due to an issue behind having won impressively at Aintree and incurred a fracture recently and couldn't be saved. The Hemmings owned gelding will be sorely missed by everyone at Jackdaws Castle and his supporters.
